Faux Marble and Marezzatura with Italian Tricks
Instructor: Lucretia Moroni
Dates to be announced
Class will be in NY studio for fall/winter 2010
This course is three days consisting of a total of 24 hours instruction, of which 4 hours will take place at Palazzo Moroni in Via di Porta Dipinta, 12, in Bergamo Alta and 20 hours will take place at the Scuola d'Arte Applicata Andrea Fantoni. Students will look, sketch, copy some marbles, real and imitation, present in some of fresco's painting and parts under chair rail and fireplaces at the Foundation. In addition to that, they will attend to a complete presentation of more images of the breccia marbles, viewing local top samples of real marble...(among the others... Pulpito della Basilica of San Martino, Santa Maria Maggiore altars, etc.). The second and third day, will be dedicated in learning and practicing this wonderful, fast, very effective technique, I have learnt, working with Mongiardino's best decorative painters, but used in all Italian marbleizing and marezzatura decorative applications .
Simple newspaper pages, cut and shaped as stones of different sizes, are "printed" with mix colors onto wet, painted ground. Once basic lay-out of marble is achieved, with marbleizing, long hair bristles and fresco brushes and few strokes with feather, the breccia, or fantasy marble will be completed.
Some of the most rear, antique, Roman and Egyptian breccias will be imitated, among these the serpentino, portasanta, breccia verde o africana, frutticolosa and Saint Anne. This marbleizing style is very different, but compatible with French or Northern Europe marblizing schools.
Suitable for medium and upper level students.
Workshop times and registristation are soon to come.
