CLASS 2

Silkscreen Application for Decorative
Faux-painted Surfaces and Fabrics

March 19 and 20, 2009 in our New York studio.
2 day Intensive course (9am to 4 pm)
Suitable for professionals and intermediate students.
Course fee $380.00

This workshop will present different, more effective ways, to transfer patterns and detailed designs onto specialty surfaces such as faux painted surfaces and fabrics.

Silk-screen design and printing will be presented as a better alternative to stenciling or hand painting. There will be an introduction to the concept of how to select an appropriate pattern. Scale, color concept and pattern repeat will be examined with a brief slide show and samples. The course will begin with students designing a decorative repeat pattern of their choice from a large selection of our Library of decorative motives. Students will choose from Historical references in different styles, including organic and inorganic design.

Students will be preparing some panels, boards and canvases with different faux-effects to print on. Final drawings will be transferred onto acetate and/ or mylar, which will then be used to create a silk screen or stencil. Students will be paired-up to learn printing skills. Some of the best student pattern designs, achieved during the class, will be developed to a final silk screen, and be used by all to print. Additional demonstrations will be presented using a selection of our existing screens.

Students will be using various materials and brushes, which can be purchased from the studio. Students will take home several samples, which they can use for their portfolios, as long as the class at Fatta a Mano is credited.
