ORNAMENTS & PATTERNS - Italy

Bergamo, November 15 - 17, 2010

"ORNAMENTS AND PATTERNS" taught by Lucretia Moroni as part of a three week program of workshops will be held at the Fondazione Museo di Palazzo Moroni and the Art School Andrea Fantoni, in Bergamo, Northern Italy July 12-31, 2010

The first day of this workshop will involve the examining and drawing of historical fabrics and patterns circa 1830's as displayed at the Fondazione Museo di Palazzo Moroni. Under the expert supervision of Lucretia Moroni, the relevance and possible applications of existing patterns and ornaments will be investigated. Such as wall upholstery, chair covers and cushions as well as some details of frescoed ceilings and chair rail borders.

For the second part of this workshop, held at the Fantoni Art School, Lucretia Moroni will present different, more effective ways, to transfer patterns and detailed designs onto specialty surfaces such as faux painted surfaces and fabrics.

Silk-screen design and printing will be presented as a better alternative to stenciling or hand painting. The course will contine with students designing a decorative repeat pattern of their choice from their research at Fondazione Museo di Palazzo Moroni. Students will choose from their researched historical references in different styles, including organic and inorganic design.

Students will be preparing panels, boards and canvases with different faux-effects to print on. Final drawings will be transferred onto acetate and/ or mylar, which will then be used to create a silk screen or stencil. Students will be paired-up to learn printing skills. Some of the best student pattern designs achieved during the class, will be developed to a final silk screen, and be used by everyone to print.

Workshop times and registristation are soon to come.
