Two Puppetry Workshops
Fatto a Mano is pleased to announce it will host the Cortesi Family Workshops. A unique opportunity! Not to be missed! The 2 Workshops are different, but compatible.
When: March 24th and 25th of 2007
Where: 150 West 28th Street, suite: #1403 at Seventh Avenue, Near Penn Station (1-RR-N-6 trains)
Time: 10:00 am to 3:00pm (with a 30 minute lunch break)

The 2 Workshops are different but compatible, if you are in the field, we recommend to take both.

FIRST WORKSHOP:
Saturday March 24th from 10 am to 3 pm
With an Introduction to its origins, history and geography Master Cortesi will explain the different Schools types and styles such as " Hand puppets, Marionettes and Sicilian Pupi". Focus will be on Characters of Lombardy and Veneto regions. The Italian hand Puppet tradition and its vital relationship with the Commedia dell'Arte in the 19th century will be shown and explained in depth with samples of Comedies, Fairy tales and Dramas. Some time will be dedicated to how to produce from start to finish a whole show, how to write a Plot "Canovaccio" and improvise, when necessary, depending on the audience. The "Baracca" theatre, with all its parts and the hand carved Puppets of Cortesi will be used for all demonstrations of techniques, Students will be actively involved in the demonstrations. Hand-outs on each topic will be given to the students.
SECOND WORKSHOP:
Sunday March 25th from 10 am to 3 pm
This workshop will be dedicated to the design and construction of a traditional small Puppet Theatre and Shadow Theatre. Master Cortesi will also teach and make with students various types of puppets, with paper, foam and fabric material. He will demonstrate how to animate them, and how to interact and play with kids of any age, have them write a dialogue, a scene , and a play . He will draw each student's hand, as a template, to custom build a hand puppet; they will be sewn and assembled in the studio. He will also show techniques for simple costume and mask making to use at Carnival or Halloween. Hand-outs on each topic will be given to the students.
