Before Thanksgiving time, we look at Native American Art and Culture.
Last year, as a group project, we painted, section by section, a 10
feet tall Totem. We made collages and abstract compositions with seeds
and corn meal, and we stenciled typical native patterns on fabric and
had our own handmade Tepee to play with in the Studio.
For African-American month, we have used sponge and rubber stamps on
different textured papers, inspired by some of their geometrical
textiles. We also made special collages with different type of fabrics,
soft, furry and with animal prints to design native wild animals.
We did a very successful series of low-fire clay beads to create a
unique necklace.
For the Chinese New Year, in addition to small individual Dragon
Puppets, we created 2 large size Dragons and we participated in the
Annual Parade in China Town.
